FSL Multi-Sense Monitoring System

The FSL Multi-Sense is an innovative product designed specifically for modern manufacturing businesses. This cutting-edge device provides a robust solution for comprehensive energy usage and environmental monitoring, delivering actionable insights through intuitive cloud-based dashboards accessible on any device with a modern web browser. By leveraging the power of the Multi-Sense, businesses can gain detailed visibility into key parameters across their operations, enabling smarter decision-making and fostering sustainable practices.

What can the Multi-Sense measure.

The Multi-Sense comes equipped with a variety of built-in and expandable features, making it a versatile and indispensable tool for monitoring a diverse range of manufacturing environments. Here is an in-depth look at its key capabilities:

On board temperature and humidity sensor

The Multi-Sense base unit features an integrated temperature sensor capable of measuring a range from -10°C to +60°C with an accuracy of ±0.5°C. The on-board humidity sensor, which measures 0–100% relative humidity with ±1.8% accuracy, ensures reliable monitoring of ambient conditions. These sensors are particularly valuable in environments where temperature and moisture control are critical, such as paint shops, cleanrooms, or storage areas for sensitive materials. By maintaining optimal environmental conditions, businesses can prevent damage to equipment, stock, or consumables, minimising operational risks.

External temperature sensor

For environments unsuitable for direct placement of the Multi-Sense, such as sandblasting rooms, paint ovens, or refrigerators, the external temperature sensor provides an ideal solution. Supplied with a durable 1-meter cable that can be extended and calibrated by FSL, this sensor ensures precise measurements in challenging conditions. When paired with the on-board sensor, the external sensor delivers a comparative analysis of environmental performance, highlighting the effectiveness of insulation, heating, or cooling systems.

Vibration

The built-in three-axis accelerometer tracks movement in X, Y, and Z orientations, enabling businesses to monitor vibration characteristics of critical machinery. Properly mounted to an appliance, the Multi-Sense can identify long-term vibration patterns and detect deviations indicative of wear or mechanical issues, such as bearing degradation. This proactive approach to maintenance minimizes the risk of unplanned downtime and associated costs, making it a valuable tool for ensuring continuous operations in facilities with equipment like extraction fans, drainage pumps, or milling machines.

Current Monitoring

Equipped with three CT (Current Transducer) clamps, the Multi-Sense can measure current levels up to 100A, with a resolution of 0.081A and an accuracy of ±1.0%. This feature is particularly advantageous for monitoring three-phase appliances, providing insights into energy consumption and enabling the identification of phase imbalances. For single-phase appliances, the Multi-Sense can monitor up to three devices simultaneously, ensuring comprehensive coverage. Accurate current monitoring helps businesses manage energy costs, optimize phase loading, and maintain power supply stability.

Not only can the current measurement be applied to appliances that consume power, but for businesses that have solar or wind generation it can be used to monitor how much renewable energy is being generated to offset their overall energy consumption, a key metric with focus on carbon neutrality and net zero targets.

Why Use the Multi-Sense?

The Multi-Sense offers unparalleled flexibility and expandability to suit diverse business needs. With its ability to support additional sensors and peripherals, it can evolve alongside your operational requirements:

  • Expandable Sensor Options*: The 12-way expansion connector allows integration with various sensors, such as flow meters, air quality sensors, lux meters, or microphones. These add-ons provide even greater insights into operational conditions and facilitate tailored monitoring solutions.

Please note: The current rev1 Multi-Sense is able to monitor internal temperature & humidity, external temperature, vibration and current measurement. The software it currently has is limited to those measuremements although the hardware is currently developed for more sensors. With customer feedback driving future development of the Multi-Sense FSL are striving to develop ways to incorporate readings from these additional sensors to work with future revisions. This is expected to take place in Mid 2025. We are keen to work with you to understand your requirements in order for us to deliver the most adaptable and versatile version of the Multi-Sense that we can.

  • Customizable Display Outputs: The Multi-Sense can be configured to display critical statistics on nearby screens, such as LED displays, making real-time information accessible to staff at a quick glance.
  • Online Data Accessibility: The primary strength of the Multi-Sense lies in its seamless integration with the cloud. Through the SMDH Quicksight dashboard, users can access, analyse, and export to CSV format which can be graphically processed further . This allows for comprehensive trend analysis, reporting, and the ability to share insights across teams. Having the information on the cloud means it can be accessed on a range of devices including desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone from any location with a stable internet connection.
  • Sustainability and Productivity: By identifying inefficiencies and optimising equipment performance, the Multi-Sense enables businesses to reduce their carbon footprint, improve energy usage, and move closer to achieving Net-Zero objectives. Additionally, predictive maintenance capabilities can significantly enhance productivity by reducing unexpected equipment failures.

Easy to install

Installing and connecting the Multi-Sense is straightforward, with multiple mounting options and a simple wifi connection process.

  • Mounting Options: The Multi-Sense can be securely attached to DIN rails or flat surfaces using screw lugs, offering flexibility for various installation scenarios.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: Provisioning the device via the ESP SoftAP app is simple and user-friendly. The app guides users through connecting the Multi-Sense to a Wi-Fi network, ensuring reliable data logging and accessibility.

Comprehensive Dashboard

The dashboard for the Multi-Sense is designed to provide a seamless and user-friendly experience. By leveraging cloud technology, the dashboard aggregates all the data collected by the device into a single platform. Users can view key metrics such as energy consumption, environmental conditions, and vibration analysis over various timeframes, making it easy to identify trends and anomalies. The data is displayed through interactive graphs and tables that can be customized to meet specific business needs. Furthermore, the dashboard supports exporting data in CSV format for further analysis and reporting. Accessible on desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones, the dashboard ensures that critical information is always at your fingertips, enabling timely and informed decision-making.
